Onyx Eye-care Foundation is a Non-governmental/non-profit organization founded and registered with Corporate Affairs Commission of Federal Republic Of Nigeria on 27th of July,2011 to render free eye treatment and free eye surgeries to the poor and elderly people living in the rural areas of Africa.Our aims and objectives include:
We have covered so many states in Nigeria and we do 100 cataract and pterygium eye surgeries every year since 2011 but we did 131 eye surgeries in 2022 making it a total of 1231 cataract and pterygium surgeries free of charge.
We have issued thousands of glasses free of charge to our patients for 12 years now and still hope to do more. We also partner with other health NGOs that render general free medicals to poor people living in rural areas. We also have a referral eye center where we refer our patients from rural areas and do a follow-up treatment on them especially after surgeries.

We assess vision and eye health. It involves tests for visual acuity, refraction, and checks for conditions like glaucoma or cataracts. Regular examination promote eye wellness.
Providing glasses corrects vision issues, while administering medication addresses eye-related conditions. This dual approach enhances visual health and management

The reality is that a significant number of Nigerians are unemployed, rendering it challenging for numerous individuals to avail themselves of health insurance policies. Owing to poverty and the absence of access to health insurance, a considerable portion of the population is now unable to afford essential eye care.
Onyx eye-care foundation was formed to address this issue by making primary eye-care services easily available to rural communities, to render full free eye treatment and free eye surgeries to the poor and elderly people living in the rural areas who cannot genuinely afford basic eye-care
Individuals are losing their eyesight daily as a result of poverty, ignorance, and the absence of access to fundamental eye care. Our initiative involves bringing eye care services to the grassroots by providing education, treatment, and facilitating referrals for follow-up when necessary.
In Nigeria,there are very few health insurance policies including government and private ones but the beneficiaries of these health insurance policies are only those working especially for the government. It is a fact that many Nigerians are unemployed making it impossible for many people to benefit from the health insurance policies.Due to poverty and lack of access to health insurance, many people can no longer afford basic eye-care.
The treatments available to prevent and cure blindness are the most effective and cheapest of all health care interventions. Onyx Eye Care Foundation envisions a world in which unnecessary blindness no longer limits people's possibilities. A world in which unequal access to good and accessible eye care has disappeared and everyone has the opportunity to build a future with clear vision.
